As a result, we're not accepting donations, for now.

Stay tuned here or on Facebook for information about when we begin taking donations again and where to bring them.

Sale Donation Guidelines

We gladly accept:

  • Books in good readable condition. We cannot sell books with broken spines, missing pages or covers, or water damage. Please discard any books that have visible mold or a mildewy odor.

  • Media: DVDs, books-on-CD, CDs, records, and current computer software

  • Games and Jigsaw Puzzles

We are unable to accept:

  • Magazines

  • VHS or cassette tapes

  • Encyclopedias

  • Textbooks more than 5 years old

When, where, and how to donate:

We accept donations all year. During library hours, donations can be left at the circulation desk. Otherwise, donations can always be left in bags or boxes on the loading dock at the back of the library. It is extremely helpful if you can bring your items to the library yourself. However, if you are unable to do so, we do have volunteers who will pick them up. Please call the library at 781-395-7950 and leave a message asking for a pick-up. A volunteer will reach out to you and make arrangements to do so.

***IMPORTANT: All donated items should be in boxes or bags. Please do NOT leave loose items on the loading dock!!***

A word about items we cannot sell:

Unfortunately, we do not always have shelf space for everything that is donated to us. Items that we cannot use are donated to More Than Words, a nonprofit social enterprise that empowers youth who are in the foster care system, court-involved, homeless, or out of school to take charge of their lives by taking charge of a business. They run a used bookstore in Boston.

We also invite the librarians to look through new donations in case any donated materials can be added to the library’s collection. Many items have been added in this way, especially replacement copies of damaged books. We are able to save the library hundreds of dollars that can then be used for purchasing additional new materials.

We are always looking for other ways to make the best use of books that we are unable to keep. If you have any ideas or know an organization that would like to receive a donation of books, please let us know!
